Australian Sports Museum
📍 East Melbourne, VIC
The Australian Sports Museum at the MCG spans multiple levels of memorabilia covering AFL, cricket, tennis, and more. Interactive zones let kids test skills, and an MCG stadium tour adds a behind-the-scenes layer for sports fans of any age.
Definitely worth it for the price paid. Situated inside the stadium, it boasts several levels of memorabilia spread over different sections dedicated to different sports. These including Australian rules football, tennis, cricket etc. Most highlighted is the special cricket section, where you can enter a 3D projected Shane Warne experience, where the late, famous cricketer comes out and gives a talk about his career with the Australian cricket team. There are also lots of interactive areas where you can try out catching, pedalling and other sports. This especially great for children. You are also given a wristband that allows you to interact with many of the displays in the museum. Overall a very enjoyable visit. I would allow for about 1 hour for a visit. This will allow you to easily see everything in the museum and fully enjoy it.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids aged 8 and up who follow Australian sport — AFL and cricket fans in particular will find the interactive sections genuinely engaging rather than passive. The MCG tour is worth adding for older kids and adults.

“This place is a great spot for whole family. It has stuff for the oldies and newer stuff for mid age. And down stairs there is an interactive section for the kids. Make sure you watch the Warney show and there is some info about the mcg I didn’t know-“reversible grandstands that burnt down. Staff service here is top shelf.”

“It was a memorable experience. The guide gave a lot of valuable information about the history of the stadium, different sections of the stadium, different seating arrangements, etc. I was lucky since I could also see the Shane Warne exhibition.”

Overview
Spread across several levels inside the MCG, the museum houses memorabilia and interactive exhibits dedicated to AFL, cricket, tennis, and Australian sporting history. The Shane Warne exhibition and a dedicated cricket section — where visitors can test batting and bowling skills — are standout areas. Combining a museum visit with a guided MCG tour provides access to change rooms, players race, and the ground itself. Knowledgeable staff and guides field questions throughout.
