Boulder Lab in Ferntree Gully spans over 2,200m² of indoor climbing wall space with problems graded 1–10. Ages 5+ welcome, with youth programs, shoe hire, and routes from first-timer level to competition-grade challenges.
Grand opening review: Bright, colourful, open, tidy, fun and friendly are just some of the words that come to mind when I checked out Boulder Lab. Settings is really great with a good combination of technical, hard, medium and easy climbs with lots of setting styles, dual textured and various holds with something for all skill sets. Grading is based on a 1-10 system with 10 being the hardest. The facilities have a cafe, lounge area, bathrooms, change rooms, showers, toilets, lockers, bag storage and upstairs gym area that will be opening up in the near future. Plenty of parking and very reasonable trading hours. Thanks for an awesome day of climbing and looking forward to my next visit 😊👍👍
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids aged 5+ who want to try bouldering together regardless of experience gap. Beginners find enough accessible routes to stay engaged, and experienced climbers have plenty of challenge. The Knox shopping centre proximity makes it easy to extend the outing.

“Suitable for all skill levels! They have lots of climbing options available, ranging in difficulty from easy to extremely hard. As a beginner with zero arm strength, there were easy enough options for me. It was also fun watching experienced boulderers climb up rock courses that seemed impossibly difficult! The staff here are super kind and helpful, and the environment is really nice and non-judgmental, so please don't feel anxious about trying out bouldering for the first time!”

“Had a lot of fun and so did my wife! Boulder lab is great for dates and close to Knox shopping centre so after climbing an appetite you can finish with a meal! The climbs range from “super easy” to “I don’t even know how you would attempt this”! In between climbs we had fun watching the experienced guys do the higher levels (7-9).”

“Fantastic place! Big and spacious with plenty of bouldering problems of any sort of grade, from super easy, to medium level, to hard. Gym access upstairs. Super friendly staff. Very dog friendly! What else can you ask for? :)”
