Buda Historic Home & Garden
π Castlemaine, VIC
Heritage-listed Victorian property in Castlemaine with preserved interiors, original furniture and artwork from the Leviny family, and a large garden where kangaroos have been spotted grazing.
It was a Victorian era home now converted into museum. Even though the entry fees was 12$ yet the overall experience especially the picturesque views from the garden made it all worth. The volunteer working there is very kind and helpful. I still remember her kind gesture towards me. If you want to dive in some history while enjoying the views that castlemaine offers this is the place to be .
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 8 and up who can engage with guided storytelling and historical objects. Younger children will enjoy the garden space and spotting wildlife. The volunteer-run format means the quality of the visit depends on who is guiding β reviewers consistently single out individual staff for making the experience memorable.

βBrought my parents to check out this place. Very well kept and they have managed to retain the family antiques and well preserved history with a charming back story. Beautiful garden but could do with a bit more work. They did say itβs run by volunteers. The workers are all friendly and informative. Donβt miss it if you are passing through Castlemain.β

βReally enjoyed learning about the fascinating creative Leviny family - former owners of this house; the home and the garden are very charming. I even saw some kangaroos grazing in the far part of the garden. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for sharing their knowledge of history with visitors and maintaining this place so well.β

Overview
Buda Historic Home and Garden preserves over a century of one Hungarian-Australian family's artistic legacy. Original furniture, paintings, and personal objects remain in place throughout the house. Knowledgeable volunteers lead visitors through the story of the Leviny family who owned the property from the 1860s. The garden is expansive with heritage plantings and room to roam. Run by volunteers, so hours and staffing may vary.
