Today I met a wonderful group of volunteers that do a fantastic job keeping this museum neat and tidy. There is lots of interesting bits and pieces here. I was impressed and would highly recommend a visit. It's well worth the small entry fee.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for road-tripping families passing through inland Queensland who want more than a roadside stop. The sheer variety — from delicate china to industrial machinery — keeps adults engaged as kids explore the heritage buildings. The monthly mini railway day is worth timing a visit around. Allow at least 90 minutes to see everything properly.

“Well worth a visit. So easy to get off and back on to the Warrego Hwy. Probably need a good hour or more to really have a look around. A very modern and informative Fire Tower interpretive centre with some significant history and development displays. A gem of a place with some great tangible items that invoke the reflection of the past and appreciation of the present. $10 entry and railway ride for kids. Also right next door to Botanic Gardens.”

“Kudos to all concerned. What an achievement. I just moved from one amazing display to the next: a fine china table setting with ornately covered butter dish to a behemoth of a traction engine. Something for everyone. A real glimpse into the past. Toil followed by toil comes to mind. And to think every tool, machine and device was once brand shiny new, often state-of-the-art! Anyone know what this is?”
