Edendale Community Environment Farm
π Eltham, VIC
Edendale Community Environment Farm in Eltham is free to enter and home to alpacas, goats, sheep, horses, Guinea pigs and chickens. A community garden, nature play areas, a substantial playground and an on-site cafe are all part of the site.
Visiting Edendale community environmental centre was lovely and educational. Itβs a great setup and family friendly. There were quite a few school groups having an educational introduction in worm farming and composting. I wandered randomly seeing the chooks, goats, Guinea pigs, sheep and alpacas and admired the garden art features. I finished at the gift shop with so many nice things and bought a bag of organic apples. The cafe offers great and affordable drinks and foods, so I enjoyed my egg & chutney toasty before heading home. Thank you! ππΈ
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with toddlers and primary-school-age children who want hands-on animal interaction in a relaxed bushland setting without paying entry fees. The animals at the back of the farm are less fed-out than those at the front β walk further in for better interactions. Dogs must be left at home for the welfare of the farm animals.

βSuch a lovely farm β€οΈ Tips for optimal experience - kind reminder to leave dogs at home for the sake of farm animals and your own enjoyment. πβοΈπΆ - save feed for a lot more chickens at the back to be satisfied. Chickens in the front had been fed too wellπ€£ - more cute goat kids at the back - If this is your first visit, allow for at least 1.5 hours stay at the farm for full exploration. Enjoy spending time interacting with the happy animals!β

βFantastic community farm to bring toddlers and young kids. There are sheeps, goats, alpacas, chickens, Guinea pigs and horses here for the kids to interact. There is also a small community farm and a huge playground just behind the farm. It's a great place to spend the day with the kids. The Cafe food is also very good. Overall, a fantastic initiative by the council and the folks involved.β

βEdendale Community Environment Farm is the perfect place for a relaxing, educational family outing in Eltham. Entry is free (donations welcome), so itβs super accessible, and kids absolutely love feeding the chickens and meeting friendly farm animals like alpacas, goats, chicken and sheeps. The gardens are delightful with a spiral garden, shaded sandpit, and quirky recycled-art features that are great for little explorers. Cafe Eden is lovely for a snack or coffee with a view, and the lawns make a great spot for a picnic too. Thereβs ample parking onsite, and if thatβs full, you can easily park at the nearby playground and walk across via the bridge. Recommend for a fun, green, and budget-friendly family day out.β

Overview
Edendale Community Environment Farm sits in a bushland setting in Eltham and is run as a community resource focused on sustainability education. Animals include alpacas, goats, sheep, horses, Guinea pigs and chickens β with more animals concentrated toward the rear of the farm. A productive community garden, worm farming and composting demonstrations, nature play areas and a large separate playground are all on site. A cafe operates with a sparse food menu and good coffee.
