1 / 3IMAX Melbourne (Museums Victoria)
π Carlton, VIC
Melbourne's IMAX features a 32-metre wide screen with advanced laser projection, showing blockbusters in 3D and exclusive expanded-aspect-ratio IMAX formats. Seated in Carlton Gardens with cafe facilities and validated parking.
Itβs an experience worth having. Very well maintained, comfortable seating, and everything looks impressive. Parking is a bit expensive, but there is a way to get a discountβyou need to register your purchased IMAX tickets through a specific process. Check online for the exact steps before paying for parking. Book your movie well in advance to get the best seats. The ideal ones are usually in the middle rows (H/I/J), with seat numbers around 25. Some movies (like Avatar) may not have an interval, so make sure to get your food beforehand. Also note that there are around 20 minutes of commercials, including movie trailers, before the film starts.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children and teens who can sit through feature-length films and appreciate large-format cinema. Films shot natively for IMAX deliver the biggest visual payoff on this screen. Middle-row seating maximises the experience. Families who may need to exit mid-film should choose aisle-adjacent seats when booking.

βThe theatre is incredible and I recommend seeing films created specifically for IMAX there. However, the customer service is beyond incredible. I accidentally booked the wrong day for my session recently and emailed to make a change request, it was sorted so efficiently and they called to make sure all the changes were clear. It was such a great experience and I just wanted to call out Dan & Sin for the great service.β

βI watched F1: The Movie at IMAX Melbourne and it was an incredible experience! The screen is absolutely massive, and the sound is so powerfulβit felt like I was right there on the racetrack. The visuals were stunning and the movie was full of energy. Highly recommend seeing this film at IMAX if you get the chance. Perfect combo!β

Overview
IMAX Melbourne's 32-metre wide screen and laser projection system deliver a visually immersive experience at scale. The venue programmes blockbusters in standard 3D and films shot in native IMAX format β the latter filling the full screen height. Rows H, I, and J around seat 25 provide the best sightlines. Twenty minutes of commercials precede features. Parking validation is available through a specific online registration process using purchased tickets.
