1 / 2Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park
π Seal Bay, SA
Hands-on wildlife encounters on Kangaroo Island including koala holds, kangaroo feeding, penguin watching, and dingo presentations. Private tours available for closer animal contact. Recommended age 3+, visit time around 2 hours.
It is a genuinely lovely place, despite the day being extremely hot and dry, which made the visit a little more challenging. Given the relatively small population and semi-isolated nature of the island, the zoo is impressively well maintained and clearly managed with care and attention. The enclosures appear thoughtfully designed, and the overall environment feels clean, organised, and respectful of the animals. The female staff members in particular stood out for their friendliness and professionalism β they were approachable, helpful, and created a welcoming atmosphere throughout the visit. Overall, it is evident that a great deal of effort goes into maintaining this zoo to a high standard, making it a worthwhile experience even under less-than-ideal weather conditions. However some tourist/visitors are not very polite that talking with each other loudly while watching the birds show. I wish this place is going well in the future!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 3-10 who want direct animal contact rather than a large zoo walkthrough. The private tour is the standout β kids feed multiple species hands-on with a knowledgeable guide. Animal welfare is prioritised by staff, and enclosures are well-maintained.

βWonderful! We did the private tour, which was SO worth it -- we got to hold a koala, feed baby kangaroos and adult roos and wallabies, feed marmosets and servals (African cats) , and got to see wombats, meerkats, quokkas, and all kinds of other adorable creatures. An absolute highlight of our trip to KI. Our guide Tyler was awesome.β

βA wonderful small park where the welfare of the animals comes first and the care is loving. We enjoyed our visit and my 9 year old son loved the private tour where he could feed several different animals. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommended, especially with younger children!β

βExciting! Opportunity to feed the kangaroos and gently rub the adorable koalas. The kangaroos are friendly yet "bossy" - they hold your hand to continue feeding. Other wildlife in the park to observe as well.β
