A Delightful Oasis for the Young at Heart. I recently spent a wonderful morning at May Drive Parkland in King's Park, I found it to be an absolutely lovely and relaxing spot. While it's famed for the brilliant Evolution Through Time playground and the megafauna for the kids, it offers so much more that makes it perfect for family gathering. The sheer scale and serenity of the open lawns are a breath of fresh air. It's the perfect place to spread out a picnic blanket under the immense, shady trees and simply watch the world go by. The air is fresh, and the environment is beautifully maintained. A big highlight for me was Zamia Cafe. The location, right by the lake and overlooking the parkland, is superb. It’s a great spot to enjoy a good coffee and a bite to eat—the ideal pace for a relaxed morning out.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with adventurous kids aged 3 and up who enjoy climbing and exploring in a scenic bush setting. The lake and woodland trails extend the visit well beyond playground time. Check Kings Park closures before making a long trip — the site closes without consistent online notice.

I really liked this playground since it felt like a small island on a nice lake where you could climb the tree house and slide down. There are also other enjoyable woodland walks for children. And there's a cafe nearby called Zamia Cafe, where I and my daughter ate lunch. What's funny is that as soon as we went in, the servers handed you some pencils to draw with; apparently, they are quite skilled at dealing with children's troubles and ensuring parents have a pleasant lunchtime.
