This theatre is another reason why I love Malanda. Very historical. Nothing fancy. I didn't have the luck for a movie there as the time I stayed in Malanda is limited but I did visit it for a bit. Guess it's hard to find a theatre like this anymore. They only play limited of movies per day as there is only one hall. You can get some snacks outside the theatre. Overall I just love it.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families who want a genuine heritage movie outing away from mall multiplexes. The relaxed single-screen format suits all ages. Vintage canvas sling chairs can feel uncomfortable on longer films β€” bring a small cushion. Check the program before visiting as daily session count is sparse.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Bring a small pillow or blanket for extra comfort β€” the theatre does supply some
⏰Check the current program online as only a handful of sessions run daily
🎟️Hot drinks are served alongside standard snacks β€” ideal on cooler Tablelands evenings
πŸš—Combine with a walk through Malanda town centre for a full afternoon out

β€œGreat prices, laid back and comfortable. I'd recommend bringing some pillows and blankets (they do supply some) I also love that they offer a range hot drinks which I prefer over soft drink.”

Overview

Built in 1929 from local hardwood timber, the Majestic Theatre is Australia longest-running commercial cinema in its original structure. Digital projection and surround sound sit inside authentic heritage bones. Screenings run daily with a small program β€” one hall means sparse sessions. Hot drinks available alongside snacks. Fantastically affordable compared to modern multiplexes.
