We had a great time here!!! My 11-year-old brother and I kept saying how cool it was after we left! Rhett was very kind, passionate, and knowledgable! He was saying how his dad had collected the artefacts he had on display and I think it’s great that he’s taking on what his dad did! There was a lovely presentation and we could even pick up different marine animals such as sea cucumbers! Rhett was telling us about this rock area we could explore and we did that after because the talk left such a lasting impression, trying to find the creatures we were shown 😁 Very great price too :) Thank you for this :))

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for curious children aged 6 and up who want genuine hands-on marine learning rather than passive displays. Guide Rhett's enthusiasm is infectious and the rock pool follow-up turns classroom learning into real discovery. An ideal stop for families passing through the Tweed Coast β€” compact enough to fit into a beach day.

β€œMarine discovery centre is well worth a visit. Wonderful displays and lots of interactive activities for children. Brett met us as we arrived and instantly captured the children attention with interesting activities and a talk on the local marine like and what to look for when exploring the rock pools. He was great with the kids and answered all their questions and kept them fascinated in what he was talking about.”

Overview

Marine Discovery Centre Hastings Point is an intimate venue where guide Rhett leads interactive sessions using artefacts collected by his father and his own deep marine knowledge. Kids hold sea cucumbers and other live animals during presentations, then head to the nearby rock platforms to find the creatures they just learned about. The small-group format means personal attention for every child.
