This safari park, a treasure of Australia, is truly amazing! I highly recommend it for its extraordinary experience. The zoo is great, but the beautiful and expansive grounds allow you to see a variety of African animals living peacefully, so it's a must-visit. I particularly admired the baby zebras running around, the herd of giraffes feeding, and the sheer size of the rhinos. The graceful gait of the cheetahs was also beautiful. You'll be moved by this majestic location. We enjoyed a leisurely tour on the bus, listening to the guide's explanations, or we could walk along the way, so it was a great way to spend the whole day. Since it's a wildlife park, there are a lot of flies, especially in the summer, so insect repellent is a must! The souvenir shop is also well-stocked. You'll find cute park-themed t-shirts, accessories, stuffed animals, and other keepsakes. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I really appreciate and respect their efforts to ensure the safety of the animals and all guests and to provide a wonderful experience. If you stay at the resort hotel adjacent to the site, you can take part in a private safari tour in the evening, which allows you to see the animals even closer than during the day, so we highly recommend this option.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families who want an African wildlife experience without leaving Australia. The bus tour format works for all ages and mobility levels β€” no long walks required in heat. Book tickets before arriving, especially on public holidays when the park can reach capacity.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Book tickets in advance β€” the park turns visitors away on public holidays when capacity is reached
⏰Bring insect repellent; flies are persistent especially in summer
🎟️Pack hat, sunscreen, and water for walking sections between bus stops
πŸš—Add-on experiences like lemur and giraffe feeding require separate booking β€” secure these before arriving

β€œAmazing animal park and resort in South Australia just over an hour’s drive from Adelaide airport. A bit of wild Africa in Australia; > 1500 hectares. The resort facility is excellent, with comfortable large and sunlit rooms, friendly caring housekeeping, plenty of parking, sunrise and sunset tours and a children’s and separate adults pool close to waterholes where the animals come and drink. Sunset and sunrise tours (prebook). Bars and a nice restaurant that serves classic high quality SA produce. Staff super friendly and professional. Your visit will help this visionary and amazing not-for-profit keep the animals and park facilities in great condition! We loved the long weekend stay here. Can’t wait to return. List of animals, small to very large, on their Website. Monarto Safari Park’s zoo is next door (see the zoo park map photo), another great experience for lions, elephants, bison, chimps etc., for combined bus and walking. The town of Murray Bridge is 10 mins away by car and has plenty of grocery stores, eateries etc., and a great view of the mighty Murray River. Team Monarto (& Zoos SA doing the animal care) have done Australia proud!”

β€œSuch a cool place to visit! We repurchased our tickets as we were visiting on a public holiday, definitely recommended to avoid getting turned away at the gate. It was very busy but they had many buses running and we hardly waited any longer then 5 mins. Lots of walking trails if you like, very knowledgeable volunteers providing useful information and sharing their knowledge on the bus rides and at the stops while your waiting. Always love visiting Monarto, will have to return once they comple the new Elephant viewing area and bus stop area.”

β€œA great day out! Very well-organised tours with air-conditioned buses that arrive at the different stops with great regularity and minimal wait times. The keeper talks are great, as are the add-on up close tours. We did the Lemurs, and it did not disappoint. The cafe had a great range of food at reasonable prices. There's nowhere else to eat, as it is a bit remote. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and water. Kind and informative park rangers and guides.”
