1 / 2Mornington Railway
π Moorooduc, VIC
Volunteer-run heritage railway with four restored carriages operating every Sunday between Moorooduc and Mornington. One-hour scenic journeys include whistle-sounding and cab visits. Dog-friendly and Santa trains run throughout the year.
We always love to include our furchild to these kind of experiences, so it was grateful for the Mornington Tourist Railway to have a Yelpy Kelpie's Railway Adventure which one carriage could include dogs! We pre-purchased our tickets online and once arrived swap the electronic tickets to physical tickets which cutely were punched holed when we got on board. Itβs all run by volunteers which is amazing and all the volunteers running the place this weekend were all so friendly and accommodating. Recommend to grab a snag at the kiosk too - the gentleman was so lovely that he gave our Dobby some pieces of snags! The ride itself on the train was a cool experience and having our dog on board was even better. Most parties got a carriage each so it was comfortable and our dog loved looking outside. Itβs a well organised activity, recommend if youβre around the area to drop in! All proceeds go towards to maintenance of railway. If you would like to bring your dog; stay in tune on their socials for days / dates you can book in a ride with your pooch.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who appreciate slower-paced, genuinely historical experiences β the volunteers passion is palpable and adds real character. Dog-friendly events make it rare among train experiences. Kids who can sit remains for a scenic hour get the most from it. The Santa and themed events are worth timing a visit around.

βMornington Tourist Railway held their first dog friendly event. We thoroughly enjoyed taking a step back in time to relax and enjoy steam train travel with our three dogs. We booked our own compartment, which we highly recommend, that way the dogs were so relaxed and calm on their first train ride. The staff were absolutely lovely and happy to answer all questions about these beautifully restored trains. It was such a treat to learn from them as we soaked up the heritage vibes. There was plenty of time to check out the steam engine and let the dogs have a run around on the grass at the Mornington Station stop and plenty more to learn and check our at Moorooduc Station. All the dogs we met on the day were so well behaved. Highly recommended a visit. We will be back. All dogs travelled in the same carriage, so if youβre not a dog person you donβt need to be anywhere near them.β

βJust want to say a huge thanks to the guys for putting on the Santa Train rides on the weekend. The grandchildren had so much fun travelling with Santa and his elf. We all loved the whole experience of a vintage train ride. So good to see so much support for the railway. Many happy families like us.β
