Petty's Orchards in Templestowe combines over 200 apple varieties across heritage orchards with a popular cafe, organic produce store, and a children's playground. A rural escape set surprisingly close to Melbourne's suburbs.
What an amazing find! Get down here! How is something this beautiful and rural stuck right in the middle of the suburbs?! Organic farm store with new season apples and pears, plus local organic produce. Heritage buildings, over 200 apple varieties, a pretty cafe with great coffee (serving to 5pm!!!). They've got homemade cakes, Casper's pies and pastries, smoothies, juices, and organic vegan icy poles. Take a 5 minute stroll to the river, or the kids can play on the playground. Plenty of parking
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with young children who want a relaxed outdoor outing combining a quality cafe meal with orchard exploration and playground time. The heritage setting and calm atmosphere suit a Sunday morning or school-holiday half-day. Autumn is the prime season when fresh apples and pears are in stock.

βWhat a discovery today. In the wildβs of Templestowe far far away, their lurks an Apple Orchard, a rather popular cafΓ© and organic fruit store here at Perryβs Orchard. The orchard is leased out to a local operator and the sign says itβs maintained by local volunteers. The staff are helpful and the choices vary from home cooked - I was told βthe lady who does the bakingβ - pies and sausage rolls to quite amazing vegan and vegetarian slices, tarts quiches and cakes? Stars of our show? Probably the spinach and zucchini cake that looked like a carrot cake with the same icing walnuts and raisins on top. What an amazing flavour, spiced with nutmeg cinnamon. Absolutely yum! Next, the caramellised onion tart and vegetarian tart with beetroot was a hit. And we tried their vegetarian lasagna it was delicious strong tomato base flavor. The late coffee was strong and the English breakfast tea was good. They have a wide variety of milk and soy drinks as well as sweet cakes and tarts. Wrapped around the serving counter is an organic fruit and vegetable π₯¦ display. Prices are expensive here, as you might expect? Outside the is a small childrenβs play area and down the lawn a bit is a pergola for that personal cafΓ© experience away from the crowd. Itβs winter so no blush or fruit on the apple trees, still there some lemons on the trees next to the cafΓ©. Pettyβs seems to be a popular cyclistβs stop over and fun for all ages. Itβs five minutes away from the Templestowe branch of Aumannβs nursery so a double garden experience is very doable. We enjoyed this sojourn. Not so much the drive back to Mernda via the C746 squiggly road though π«’β
