1 / 3Shepparton Art Museum
📍 Shepparton, VIC
Free-entry regional museum in Shepparton with a dedicated interactive children's gallery, augmented reality displays, rotating major touring exhibitions, and a cafe with Albert Lake views. School holiday workshops run regularly.
Magnificent lake, lots of ducks and other birds, well constructed walkway over the water, complete with many benches to stop and absorb as well as eating areas under pleasant structures! Wonderful cafe/restaurant with wide glass view of the lake, genuinely welcoming waiters/ waitresses that seem to all live working there. Nice range of tasteful snacks, drinks and meals that provide very clever variety to the typical menu. Huge art studio with great music that covers most genres which is jointly wired to play in the information centre downstairs. The Information Centre carefully constructed open (not crammed) displays downstairs is put together with passion & the two ladies staffing today, obviously have that passion. They are to me a credit beyond the standard employee. The enjoyment after receiving the trip desires that you give, and their willingness to create for you, experiences to live, of district localities they pass on their vast knowledge of places to see, designed to fit your itinerary. A number of fun novelties @ the infocentre are available for purchase like Grandmas beers, historical colourful books are available as well as nice clothing and some quality jams! A trip here will certainly not bring any tears!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who respond to interactive displays and hands-on art experiences. Free entry removes any commitment barrier and the cafe with lake views makes a cultural half-day genuinely enjoyable for adults too.

“Delightful art museum punching above it's weight in a regional town. The Woman and Child sculpture by Sam Jinks is a must-see and admired in-person to truly appreciate how gorgeous it is. The children's gallery is interactive and fun for kids, and spotting the Shepparton Moooving Art cows are always a delight.”

“Lovely gallery to visit. Great coffee in the cafe. Great to see them championing local artists. Was particularly taken with this triptych by Philip Hickingbotham. Would love to see more of his work.”

Overview
Shepparton Art Museum houses rotating touring exhibitions — past shows have included works in the calibre of Picasso and Matisse — alongside a dedicated children's gallery with interactive activations. Augmented reality displays add a technology layer to the permanent collection. The Sam Jinks hyperrealist sculpture Woman and Child is a recurring highlight in visitor accounts. A cafe operates extended hours beyond museum opening and overlooks the lake.
