1 / 3The Keys
๐ Preston, VIC
Refurbished historic Preston warehouse with 12 authentic maple bowling lanes, a sprawling beer garden, arcade games, three bars with 48 beer taps, pickleball courts, and a full bistro. Dog-friendly outdoor areas and pram access throughout.
The sound of kathump as the bowling balls hit that unbeatable timber floor, and seconds later, the clatter of skittles tumbling. Sometimes catching up with grown kids looks like a quick coffee squeezed in between shifts, partners, and real life. Last Christmas, instead of things, I asked for time. Actual, proper, do-something-together time. Somewhere in passing I said, โTen-pin bowling could be funโฆโ And voilร , a Christmas voucher for all six of us. Cashed in this weekend ๐ณ We spent a few happy hours at The Keys, a brilliant mash-up of old-school bowling lanes and a laid-back Aussie beer garden. Cold drinks, plants hanging from the ceiling, and that easy, friendly vibe that makes you want to stay longer. The menu is deliberately tight, a smart move that keeps things moving, with generous pub classics and share-friendly snacks that do exactly what theyโre meant to do between frames. The boys? Absolutely brought their A-game. Strikes, spares, casual excellence. Me? Someone who bowled a lot 40 years ago and apparently left all talent back there ๐ But honestly, watching your young adults step into their shine isnโt losing, itโs kind of the win. Arcade games, a billiard table, and yesโฆ Zoltar made an appearance (obviously had to check my future ๐ฎ). The beer garden on a warm summer day? Iconic. Dogs welcome. Staff genuinely lovely. Playlist? 60sโ70s gold. Good to know: โข Parking is easy, just watch time limits โข Kid-friendly (food + birthday parties) โข Great accessibility right up to the lanes โข Solid soundtrack and relaxed crowd Turns out the best present really was time with a side of laughter, gutter balls, and a very good beer garden. ๐๐ณ
๐ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who want bowling as part of a wider venue rather than a standalone activity. The combination of bowling, arcade, beer garden, and bistro means different members of the group find their own rhythm. The historic warehouse atmosphere makes it visually distinctive.

โI recently visited The Keys for a few games of pickleball and had a really good experience overall. The venue has a great atmosphere that feels both social and well organised. It was busy but not overcrowded, and everything ran smoothly from the moment we arrived. The courts were clean, well maintained, and properly lit, which made a big difference during play. There was plenty of space around the courts so it never felt cramped. Staff were friendly and helpful, making the whole process easy from booking to getting started. Itโs a solid spot whether youโre playing casually with friends or looking for something a bit more competitive. Weโll definitely be coming back.โ

โThis place is awesome. There are two bars, a beer garden, an arcade and a bowling alley to keep you entertained and the food is pretty good for a venue of this kind. I had the buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce, which are only $7 per basket on Mondays. They were excellent. There is a good selection of beers on tap and a couple of fun cocktail specials (I couldn't get enough of the Captain Morgan dark and stormy). The whole place has a lovely Old World feel to it, with carpeted floors, wood features, leather seats, and retro signage everywhere. I'll definitely be heading back.โ

โGreat place to hangout for a feed, play some bowling or have a few drinks. Great vibe to this place. Had the steak which was delicious. This place is also pet friendly which is amazing.โ
