Wattle Park Tram Playground
đ Surrey Hills, VIC
Reimagined playground in Surrey Hills built around Melbourne's tram heritage, featuring a central tram-themed climbing and slide structure, water feature, sandpit, swings, cubbies, and BBQ facilities.
The playground is spacious with multiple zones, including play equipment, a sandbox, low wooden platforms, and a climbing frame. There are also cute animal carvings made of wood. Additionally, there's a bike lane that spirals up to the top of the play structure. The stairs leading up are covered with soft rubber bits, so if a child falls, it would cushion the impact better than a hard surface. The entire area is designed with a tram theme.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families who want a longer outing combining active play with the broader Wattle Park grounds â walking trails, picnic areas, and open grassland extend the day well past the playground itself. The tram theme resonates with Melbourne-proud families and primary-age children. The water play zone is a drawcard on warm days.

âHaving known the old playground well, the newly built/refurbished/reimaigined space is well thought out and a work of art. There is a central tram themed playground with slides and climbing that is surrounded by little feature hubs including a water feature, sandpit, swings and cubbies. Lot's of benches and the standard bbq facilities. Grass is coming in nicely as well. A great space. Hopefully the tram restorations happen to ice the cake.â

âYay!!! I wanted to check out this playground with my daughter after a long time, hoping that the trams would finally be fixed and alas, one tram has been restored and the other is being fixed as we speak!!! Yay!!! Def nice to not see fences and red construction tape and the ability to get on and drive the tram!!! And the water play works too! Perfect time for summer coming up!â

âNice, recently updated playground that includes picnic tables and BBQ facilities (there are 4 barbeque hotplates available). Sadly Parks Victoria has completely neglected the historic trams, and brainless ferals have vandalised them, including setting one on fire. They are both fenced off and there is absolutely no restoration work being done despite the signs on the fencing suggesting otherwise. I suppose the Victorian Government needs money to pay out the contracts of its loyal friends who were put into cushy senior executive positions on the Commonwealth Games boards, rather than funding things that benefit the community.... I have concerns about the biggest metal slide at the playground. The poor design and big angle at the bottom seemed to mean a lot of kids were hurting themselves as they slid down and hit the bottom, my mates' kids included. Otherwise a nice fun place to be!â

Overview
Wattle Park Tram Playground was rebuilt as a multi-zone space anchored by a tram-themed central structure with slides and climbing. Surrounding feature hubs include a working water play area, sandpit, swings, and cubbies. The bike lane spirals to the top of the main structure, and stairs are rubber-cushioned. BBQ hotplates and benches are on-site, with mature park grounds offering grass and shade beyond the play zone.
