📍 Carrum Downs, VIC
Indoor climbing facility with auto-belay walls, a spider mountain, cargo nets, and a caving challenge. Auto-belay suits children under 13, top rope opens at 13, bouldering at 15. Staff are praised for building confidence in nervous first-timers.
The best gym around. I must say it! Was my first gym and it will be always the first gym in my heart. All the lovely people that works there is what makes that place fantastic. Everybody is so kind and friendly and most importantly they know how to make you fall in love with climbing!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 6 and up who want structured climbing rather than a chaotic soft-play atmosphere. Staff are genuinely skilled at reading nervous kids and coaxing them onto the wall without pressure. The 2-hour session structure keeps visits purposeful.

“We attended today for a two hour climb. My son was scared and decided he didn't want to do anything. Scarlett (staff member) said can I show you my favourite wall to climb, you don't need to do anything. That little bit of kindness and encouragement made him climb that favourite wall. All the staff were kind, attentive, exactly want you want for kids on school holidays. Prices were very reasonable and they had little tunnels for the kids to climb through. A true little hidden gem for school holiday activities. Bonus, they have great coffee!”

“Went to Bayside Rock for the first time with my 6 year old for indoor rock climbing. A great experience. Staff were so friendly and helpful making it a very enjoyable visit. It was great to be able to stop and have a quick snack mid visit as well. We did the 2 hour session for $26 which was great value.”

“Brilliant climbing centre! Clean, huge and well organised - the staff were lovely and helpful, and even on a Saturday morning, it wasn’t over crowded. Plenty of walls with tons of variety - even a beginner could feel accomplished by the end of the session.”

Overview
Bayside Rock offers auto-belay walls for children under 13, traditional top rope for ages 13 and up, and bouldering from age 15. Beyond the main walls, the venue includes a spider mountain, cargo nets, and a caving challenge. Gear hire is available. A cafe area provides a spot to stop mid-session for a snack. Less crowded than typical kids venues — reviewers flag it as more focused and adult in atmosphere, which keeps wait times low.
