Late posting a review but what a wonderful experience. Absolutely beautiful place with lovely horses, Jan our instructor was amazing and gave us a fab history lesson on the local areas! Even got to see kangaroos with their babies. Highly recommend. Visit the tea room down the road on your way back!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with kids who can maintain a seated riding position for a 1.5-hour trail. Complete beginners are genuinely catered to — guides actively settle nervous riders and adjust pace accordingly. The wildlife sightings are a real drawcard rather than a marketing claim. Small group sizes keep the experience personal.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

Helmets and rain coats are supplied, so no need to bring your own
🎟️Groups are kept small so the experience stays personal — book ahead
🚗Stop at the Megalong Valley Tearooms on the way back for scones and a break

Absolutely incredible experience - we did a 1.5 hour trail ride and saw kangaroos, joeys, heaps of interesting bugs and trees, and a wombat!!!! Luke, our guide, was so friendly and knowledgable about the area - he made us feel so at ease in unfamiliar surroundings (and in unfamiliar saddles - we had never ridden in Australian saddles before!) As it was drizzling at the start, we were also given rain coats (as well as helmets) which was super helpful. The horses were lovely too, couldn’t fault their behaviour and they were so charming with such individual personalities. Luke also knew ALL about them - their likes, dislikes, history - and the animals are clearly so well cared for. It was lovely to experience. There were also donkeys, a lovely pig (who oinks back to you when you talk to him, and loved a scratch!), a cockerel, and gorgeous farm dogs. Absolutely wonderful place. A complete gem, filled with wonderful people and animals, and surrounded by incredible views (even in the rain). I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

What a gem of a place! The horses were so well cared for and lovely to ride. The scenery is absolutely stunning. Luke was great, set us at ease and was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, wildlife and all of the horses. We were really lucky to see kanagroos and even a wombat.

Absolutely beautiful location in Megalong Valley and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Our guide Luke was funny, helpful and very caring when my partner was a bit nervous on the horse. Definitely recommend if you want horse riding or just to visit the cafe.

Overview

Blue Mountains Horse Riding operates out of the Megalong Valley floor, taking small groups through native bushland on gentle horses suited to beginners. Kangaroos with joeys and wombats are regularly spotted on rides. Guides Luke and Jan are named repeatedly for their calm instruction, local history knowledge, and ability to settle nervous riders. The nearby Megalong Valley Tearooms make a natural stop on the way back.
