I love this independent cinema so much! Very close to the city, clean cinema interiors, decent leg room, great customer service at the bar, and polite moviegoers. My boyfriend and I came to watch the restoration of the Seven Samurai, and had the best time. By far my best movie going experience. For an independent cinema in Melbourne, I would say that the screen sizes in this cinema is generous. The wine I had with the movie was amazing, and a huge serving too. We also ordered nachos to eat while watching and it was delicious. I also love that this is the only place I can go to in Melbourne that consistently screens old Hollywood classics, which is my favorite genre. I will definitely be back. I had the best time.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged 5 and up who appreciate atmosphere and programming beyond mainstream blockbusters. Classic Junior weekend screenings suit younger kids. Teens and adults consistently rate the film selection, popcorn, and vibe as among the best in Melbourne.

β€œLovely independent cinema. Great β€˜classic’ old features with period details like stained glass etc. Booked online which was easy. Snack bar with all the classics (popcorn, choc tops etc) was good with alcoholic beverages if desired. Seats were okay but I wouldn’t want to see a long movie as I was starting to feel a little uncomfortable by the end.”

Overview

The building retains original Art Deco details including stained glass, giving each screening a distinct atmosphere that chain cinemas cannot replicate. Classic Junior runs on weekends for family-focused programming. The cafe serves food and drinks, the snack bar stocks the full range of cinema classics, and the rooftop bar operates for evening sessions. Pram access is available. Free parking makes the Elsternwick location practical for families driving in from surrounding suburbs.
