Photographed a session here in September and the gardens were looking great. The spot has a really peaceful feel with plenty of greenery, shaded areas and little pockets that work well for portraits. The light filters nicely through the trees which makes it easy to shoot without harsh shadows. The open grass areas, small bridges and pathways give a good mix of backdrops in a pretty small space, so you can move around quickly without losing the vibe. We also had a couple bring their poodle and the space was calm enough for pets without feeling crowded. Overall, Harold Boas Gardens is a reliable location for photos or just a quiet walk. Lots of natural beauty, easy access and a relaxed atmosphere that suits couples or families.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children under 6 and parents seeking a genuinely peaceful outdoor space close to the city. The compact layout is manageable for toddlers, the new playground provides a structured play focus, and the ponds and waterfall provide natural interest. Not a destination for high-energy older children seeking large open spaces.

â„šī¸ What to Know Before You Go

💡Check toilet availability before visiting — they have been out of order at times
⏰Bring a picnic to make full use of the shaded seating near the ponds
đŸŽŸī¸The waterfall area is the quietest spot — it muffles road noise effectively
🚗Look for ducks and frogs near the water features — a reliable wildlife-spotting experience for young children

“Brand new playground to complement the rest of the gardens. Nice day out for a picnic and will be perfect when the toilet is back in order again. Overall much smaller than Hyde Park but a lot more peaceful.”
