π Scarness, QLD
Over 20 authentic historic buildings and 12,000+ artifacts recreate early Hervey Bay settlement life. Weekend demonstrations include blacksmithing, rope-making, and log sawing. Enthusiastic volunteers run every element.
Choc-A-Bloc Full Of Real Life Historical Exhibits ... If like me, you are enthralled by the dynamic modern history of Australia, then you will want to spend an extended amount time here, as I did ... A huge amount of artifacts are on display and those exhibits range, from the farm, to the kitchen, to transport, technology, education, industry, tourism, gardening, nautical, ecological and almost everything else you can imagine, in between. Exploring this marvelous museum, was quite a self indulgent exercise for your truly, as childhood memories of formative family life in the 1970s, followed by retro tech recollections at the end of school and kicking off my working career in the 1980s, 1990s, through to the early 2000s, came rushing back to the front of my mind ... A highly enjoyable way to spend an hour or more, while spending time on the hidden gem that is The Fraser Coast.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with primary-school-aged children and older who enjoy hands-on history. The weekend demonstration days offer the most engagement β kids can watch working blacksmithing and rope-making up close. Passionate volunteers elevate every section beyond standard signage.

βAn absolute must-see in Hervey Bay! This place completely exceeded my expectations β itβs huge! The museum holds an incredible collection covering all eras, from everyday tools to beautifully preserved machinery and artefacts. The recreated village sections are simply mind-blowing β walking through the old buildings and especially reaching the real working shed at the end feels like stepping back in time. The hosts and volunteers are amazing β friendly, passionate, and full of knowledge. They make history come alive with real demonstrations (they even teach you how to bone-knead, and everyone can have a go!). A visit here is truly a journey through time β you could easily spend hours exploring and still discover something new. One of the best historical museums Iβve ever been to. Highly recommended!β

βReally loved this place. It has such a lot of historical items and stories to go through. However it is something to be experienced in the cooler months. It was crazy hot there in summer. I do wish they would install air conditioning in the cottages. I understand they want to preserve the historic space but we left the place early because it was stifling inside.β
