1 / 3Katherine Aquatic Centre
📍 Katherine, NT
Outdoor 50m pool in a natural bush setting with entertaining birdlife including singing butcher birds. Children's swimming lessons run regularly, with ample shade for spectators.
Love it here. Used to manage the place. It has multi arenas to experience. The staff are friendly and try to make your experience a good one. Patrons are always good for a chat and a giggle. The bird life here are entertaining and awe inspiring, encourages one to seek nature more. Butcher birds sing with and to you, A few birds mimic kitten cries, a hawk visits the baby pool every few days, the apostle birds happily chat to each other whilst enjoying the vast amount of chill spaces that humans enjoy while sun baking. Then the lizards and crawlies all doing there stuff happily on the low level. But the coolness off the beautiful pool amongst the gorgeous natural environment calms ones mind body and soul. A great place! I still miss it. Can you tell?
🏆 Family Action Verdict
A standout destination for families visiting or living in Katherine. The combination of a full 50m pool, shaded spectator areas, and genuinely engaging birdlife makes it more than a standard lap pool. Best for families who enjoy a relaxed, nature-adjacent swim rather than a fast-food water park experience.

Overview
Katherine Aquatic Centre delivers a full-size 50m pool set amid natural surrounds that attract a rotating cast of birds — butcher birds, apostle birds, and visiting hawks. Facilities are kept immaculate, change rooms are clean, and the grounds are pram-accessible. Swimming lessons are a regular fixture, so expect school groups on weekdays.
