1 / 3Katherine Museum
π Katherine, NT
Katherine Museum presents the region's history through indoor and outdoor displays covering WWII bombings, extreme flooding events, Cyclone Tracy, and local pioneer stories.
A well appointed museum with a little of everything. Lots of well presented displays and information. And of course my favourite, old trucks and earth moving equipment. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at the museum
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-aged children aged 8 and up who engage with story-based history displays. The Cyclone Tracy section resonates strongly with kids β the destruction narrative is concrete and visual. A welcome air-conditioned stop on the way to Katherine Gorge. Allow one to two hours to read the story boards properly.

Overview
Katherine Museum sits 3km from Katherine Post Office on the road to Katherine Gorge. Multiple sheds hold curated displays on WWII Darwin bombings, the Katherine floods, Cyclone Tracy, local pioneers, and community history. Story boards are written to draw visitors into the narratives rather than list facts. The main shed is air-conditioned β significant relief in Katherine's heat. Peaceful gardens allow picnicking. Seasonal Devonshire Tea is prepared by volunteers.
