Excellent place to visit. It is a small center, but has great staff and exhibits. Paddy gave us great information and showed us squid eggs and baby squid(this may not a permanent feature). He was enthusiastic about marine life which made our child enjoy it even more. It is only open during school holidays, so make sure you check opening times and book your sessions.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
The strongest choice for families with children aged 5 and up who have any interest in marine life — the hands-on format and knowledgeable staff turn a short session into a lasting impression. Multiple reviewers note children pursuing marine careers after years of visits.

“Noise sensitive folks sadly best stay away; the centre has low ceilings and we lasted only 2 mins. So why 5 stars? Because I didn't have to do the "sorry, we have sensitivities" dance; the staff were straight onto it, and made sure to include us in the otherwise sold out story time in an adjacent quiet classroom. It was a perfect place to regulate, the "fishy tales" story time was a lovely environment, beautifully hosted. We had to excuse ourself after half the session, again the understanding and familiarity with neurodiverse needs made it feel like a positive experience, even though we weren't able to engage with it. Some of the hands on exploration of marine life looked like fabulous fun; I wonder if a low-noise session was possible in the future, given the limited sessions and popularity of the attraction. In any case, thank you again to the lovely staff for your care on the day.”

“I have been bringing my girls to the Marine Discovery centre since they were pre school age , they grew up doing rock pool rambles , canoeing and wildlife cruises on the bay . They learnt from an early age about respecting our oceans and marine national parks. So much so my eldest daughter is now studying Marine Science at Deakin University. Such a brilliant program offered in school holidays run by dedicated and passionate people”

“The kids had so much fun learning about the different dishes, filling in their scavenger forms, getting up close and personal with the touch tank and watching the puffer fish have feeding time. The ladies were really welcoming and informative.”
