1 / 3Maritime Cove Community Park Playground
π Port Melbourne, VIC
Sand-based playground with water pump see-saw, bucket-and-chain sand transport systems, climbing frames, and a large slide. Set in an unfenced beachside park in Port Melbourne. Ages 2-10.
Great playground area located just behind the beach. Plenty of activities for kids to exhaust themselves on, and if they still have energy take them for a walk out past the container terminal to ensure theyβll sleep well that night. No nearby food or drink spots, youβll need to go back to Port Melbourne where thereβs plenty of options.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 2-10 who want tactile, open-ended sand and water play without a structured playground layout. The unfenced setting rewards attentive supervision. Visiting in the afternoon provides the most shade. Pack food, water, a change of clothes, and towels β there are no facilities nearby.

βHectic playground. Would be in my top 5. Big. All sand based. Lots of buckets on chains for sand play. Water pump see saw. Plenty of bigger climbing. Ages 2 to 10. Not fenced off. Some shadeβ

βIt's a nice park with a playground area for kids and a separate area with exercise equipment for adults. There's a wooden boardwalk that runs through the park to protect the natural vegetation. Unfortunately there is very limited shaded areas in the park which can be a serious issue for young children on hot summer days. A number of shade sails should be installed. There is also limited seating. There is quite a large car park on the northern edge of the park however it's almost always full with cars even when there is virtually no one in the park!β

Overview
Maritime Cove Community Park runs entirely on sand β the base, the play surface, and the texture underfoot. Equipment includes a water pump see-saw, chains of buckets for sand transport, pulleys, climbing frames, and a large slide. Adjacent to the beach, the park has a wooden boardwalk through natural vegetation and an adult exercise area. Shade is sparse, concentrated in the afternoon during spring. No cafe or food options on-site; the nearest are back in Port Melbourne.
