A beautiful and peaceful place to visit at Maroondah Reservoir Park. The drive to the park is very scenic and relaxing, surrounded by forest and mountain views. The dam is accessible through the reservoir park entrance, and there are two car parks (upper and lower). Both areas have picnic spots and BBQ stands which makes it a great place to spend the day. Just remember to take your rubbish back with you because there are no bins in the park. Definitely worth visiting if you are exploring the Yarra Valley area.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families who want a genuinely scenic and peaceful nature outing without cost. The dam lookout is the highlight for older kids and adults. The playground and shaded picnic areas suit younger children. Not served by public transport — a car is required. Pairs naturally with a visit to Healesville Sanctuary nearby.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Use the lower car park for easiest access to picnic areas and the dam walk
The dam lookout is a short walk from both car parks and is the scenic centrepiece
🎟️Bring your own food — picnic tables are plentiful and the setting is exceptional
🚗Check if the nearby Ranges Coffee cafe is open before visiting — hours vary

Wonderful place for a trip. The peaceful lake, tall trees, and scenic walking tracks made it a perfect escape. The historic dam lookout was stunning, and the fresh air and calm atmosphere made the day unforgettable. I’d definitely visit again for another relaxing nature break. 🌲🌿

Such a beautiful view. The mountains, trees, the color of the water and the combination of this view is amazing. Doesn’t take that long to reach the dam from the park. But the area is not public transportation friendly.

Overview

Maroondah Reservoir Park wraps around a historic stone dam with a striking lookout over the water. The gardens are immaculately maintained with a formal, almost stately feel unusual for a public park. Two car parks — upper and lower — both have picnic tables with forest and mountain views. Walking tracks connect to the dam face and through tall trees along the reservoir edge. A nearby local cafe (Ranges Coffee) operates adjacent to the park.
