What a wonderful and beautiful botanical garden! Located in the suburbs of Cranbourne, this botanical garden features lots of beautiful and exotic flowers and bushes, walking tracks that go on and on and on, an Australian scene that looks like it is straight out of the outback, a lake, a lilypad bridge, a playground, many different gardens, a kiosk, a visitor centre, a Cafe, a gift shop, and millions of trees. These gardens also feature a few animals here, too. Such as bandicoots, ducks and birds, and snakes. (Watch out for the snakes as they live here, too! And, we encountered one of them on our walk, look at the pictures below! It didn't attack us or anything, it just slithered by minded it's own business. And then we continued walking.) Anyways, the red sand garden is amazing and it's hard to believe that this is in a suburb in Melbourne, but it is. And that's what makes this place absolutely beautiful and why it attracts thousands of people every year. It is also a great place to do some walking because of the bush trails that just on and on and on. And some of the walking tracks in the botanic gardens are beautiful and also great for walking! The lake is also great and features duck swimming in it! The lilypad bridge is very well designed and created and looks great! And there are many beautiful and exotic flowers and plants here that you could look at for hours and hours. And of course, you'd want to take pictures here too, so bring the camera if you have one. If not, a phone or tablet would do. There is also a Cafe and a gift shop here, too! So you can get a bite to eat, and then buy something from the gift shop, how good! So overall, the Cranbourne royal botanic Gardens are a must visit if you're in Cranbourne! So many different things to see and do, and just a nice place to do some walking. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back in the future! And watching out for snakes!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families who want a relaxed outdoor experience among Australian native landscapes without any cost. The pram-friendly flat paths suit young children, and the arid red-sand Australian Garden zone is visually unlike any suburban park. Allocate two to three hours to cover the main garden areas comfortably.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – Absolutely Wonderful Experience Cranbourne Botanic Gardens completely exceeded my expectations. I loved every moment of my visit. The Dry River Bed was in full bloom. The garden showcases an incredible variety of Australian native plants and the whole site has a special air of peacefulness that’s hard to describe. Wildlife spotting was a real highlight. I watched New Holland Honeyeaters feeding, heard Sacred Kingfishers calling, and even saw Bandicoots rustling through the undergrowth. The wider grounds are extensive and absolutely worth exploring—on one walk I was lucky enough to see a Tawny Frogmouth with its young! Bring binoculars! Some of the track signage could be clearer, but honestly, that’s easily forgiven given how wonderful the overall experience was. I loved it so much I went back twice. Getting there was straightforward: I caught the train from South Yarra in central Melbourne, then an Uber to the gardens. On the return trip, I used the shuttle bus back to Cranbourne —just be sure to book it in advance. I rang them when I couldn't book the shuttle online and they were very helpful. Highly recommended for nature lovers, gardeners, photographers, and anyone who enjoys peaceful, beautiful spaces. Entry to the gardens is free.

Amazing gardens! I can't believe there is no entry fee. The upkeep of this place must take many hands. We just saw 2 3rds of the the Australian garden in a little over 2 hours. Beautiful Australian flora. Love how there are various examples of garden design using Australian flors So good if you're looking to plant more Aussie plants in your own home garden. We saw 3 bandicoots and plentiful birds. Highly recommend this place. Cafe food is good to.

Beautiful garden, amazing variety of native plants everywhere you look. The neatest and most well organized garden I’ve seen so far. Footpaths for long or short walks according to your liking, benches to enjoy the environment, area for picnic, clean facilities, cafe, gorgeous giftshop. All you need for a lovely afternoon out with friends or family. We’ll be coming back in spring to see even more flowers in bloom.
