Science Gallery Melbourne
π Parkville, VIC
Free gallery at Melbourne Connect in Parkville presenting rotating exhibitions that intersect science, art, and technology. Strongly interactive, with knowledgeable staff who engage directly with visitors including children.
Decided to forgo the actual Museum for the Science Gallery and it was such a good choice. What an awesome collection of incredibly thought-provoking pieces, art, installations and concepts. I really enjoyed it here and the selection of things they had were so gorgeous and it was a really good time.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with curious children aged 10 and up and teenagers who engage with ideas beyond surface level. Younger children will find some exhibits abstract, and staff adapt their explanations well. Each exhibition runs for several months; check what's showing before visiting. Budget 60-90 minutes for a full walk-through.

βCame to the Distraction Exhibition here and it was fantastic, the staff are all so friendly and engaging especially with kids. Some really thoughtful art pieces on what the information age is doing to our brains and behaviour. Itβs also free so everyone should come visit. I highly recommend.β

βInteractive gallery that inspires thought. The current exhibit is DISTRACTION. I really enjoyed the variety of exhibited artworks. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about each piece and were open for a chat. Everything was clean and functioning. An overall excellent experience.β

βWhat a delightful space! I stopped by for the Sci-if exhibit completely by Sidney and I was really surprised with the space. The layout is very condensed but still quite large . The exhibit was really cool and I love how technology and design was incorporated! Fantastic!!β

Overview
Science Gallery Melbourne occupies a purpose-built space at Melbourne Connect, adjacent to the University of Melbourne. Each rotating exhibition is built around a big idea β recent themes include distraction, artificial intelligence, and speculative futures. Exhibits are hands-on and conceptually dense, designed to prompt questions rather than deliver answers. Staff are assigned to individual pieces and actively explain the work. Entry is free. Tram stop directly outside.
