Streets Beach at South Bank is one of Brisbane’s most iconic spots and a fantastic place to relax right in the heart of the city. What makes it so unique is the combination of a sparkling man-made lagoon with sandy beaches, surrounded by lush greenery and views of the Brisbane River and skyline. It truly feels like an urban oasis. The beach itself is beautifully maintained, with lifeguards on duty, making it safe for families with children. The shallow areas are perfect for kids to splash around, while adults can enjoy a refreshing swim or simply lounge on the sand. At night, the area lights up and feels just as magical. Another highlight is the location—being at South Bank means you’re only steps away from great restaurants, cafés, shops, and cultural attractions like QPAC and GOMA. Whether you want to grab an ice cream, have a picnic, or enjoy a riverside stroll, everything is close by. Clean amenities, plenty of shaded seating, and easy access by public transport make it even more convenient. Streets Beach is not just for tourists but a place locals love too. It’s the perfect blend of relaxation and city life.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with toddlers and primary-school-age children who want supervised, free swimming close to Brisbane city centre. Weekday mornings are noticeably quieter than school holiday weekends. Bring your own shade as natural cover on the beach is sparse. Public transport via train removes the need to find parking entirely.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Bring a beach umbrella — shade on the sand is sparse
Train access from the CBD is straightforward and avoids parking entirely
🎟️Weekday mornings are significantly less crowded than weekend afternoons
🚗Free amenities include showers, changing rooms, lockers, and BBQ facilities

Streets Beach is a stunning, man-made oasis in South Bank that offers a tropical escape against the Brisbane skyline. It is highly recommended for its pristine white sand, free entry, and family-friendly lagoon patrolled by lifeguards. The Highlights Unique Setting: Enjoy a crystal-clear lagoon surrounded by sub-tropical plants while overlooking the CBD. Family Friendly: Features shallow entry points and the adjacent Aquativity water park for kids. Convenience: Located steps away from world-class dining, public transport, and free BBQ facilities. Accessibility: Entry is entirely free and includes access to showers, lockers, and changing rooms. Quick Tips Crowds: It gets very busy on weekends and summer holidays; visit on weekday mornings for a quieter experience. Sun Safety: There is limited shade on the actual sand, so bring plenty of sunscreen or arrive early to snag a spot under the trees.

Does it get any better than this???? This is not some private 5 star resort, this is a PUBLIC POOL!!! Normally, I'd provide a detailled description of the facility, but you just have to go there yourself! It's at walking distance from the CBD on the other side of the river, there are tons of bars and restaurants all over the area (even a Woolies wuuhuu). We went here to celebrate NYE and the view can't be any better and enough room for everyone. Of course, I must mention 1 thing that could be improved: some more shaded places to relax please. What a wonderful city!

Took my son here for a swim we just love it 😀 We take the train so I don't have to worry about traffic, petrol or parking. Plus it's only 50c for a train fare these days. The pool is always busy it would be good if they had more seating available. I always take our own umbrella incase we make our own spot at least we're shaded.
