Wildlife Coast Cruises - Cowes
📍 Cowes, VIC
Wildlife Coast Cruises runs seal watching, whale watching (May–October), and Cape Woolamai coastal cruises from Cowes. Guides narrate throughout, and the crew navigates close to wildlife colonies for clear viewing. Suits all ages.
After a light breakfast at Sanny's Bakehouse, we headed for the pier to board our cruise. We arrived a little earlier than the half hour prior to departure, as required. To our surprise & delight, we found that a seal pup had decided to rest on the grate by the steps we were to use to board the vessel. Our 3yo grandson was happy to observe the pup. We set off two minutes after the scheduled depature time. The Captain was informative, & we enjoyed the the scenery, the changing colours of the water, & the birds. It was a little rough, but our party were fine with the motion of the vessel. The staff were helpful & friendly, & on the return leg we were served coffee & cake. A nice touch. Arrival back in port was on time, & we disembarked, heading to the nearby beach to watch the pelicans being fed. I would recommend this cruise. It is an interesting & relaxing way to spend an hour & gain a different perspective of the area. Parking was free in a parking lot opposite the Co-op. The cruise was not really suitable for those with mobility issues.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families visiting Phillip Island who want an on-water wildlife experience beyond the Penguin Parade. The seal cruise is the most reliable for guaranteed animal contact — pods of curious seal pups regularly approach the vessel. The whale watching season (May–October) adds a spectacular option for families visiting in cooler months.

“Our daughter asked for a seal watching experience for her birthday and we are thrilled that we picked you guys!! The cruise was easy and not too long, great narration and information given, the captain handled some big waves with ease and got us right up close to the seals - we had a blast. Couldn’t have asked for a better day out, the seal colony is just breathtaking. This was a great introduction to being out at sea for her, and the crew were so lovely too. It was great having a text reminder about potential parking issues and to come earlier as well. Thank you, definitely recommend!!”

“I had such a great time with Wildlife Cruises and couldn’t recommend them enough. I did both the Seal Cruise and the Cape Woolamai Cruise, and they were absolutely amazing experiences. the scenery was stunning and the wildlife was incredible to see up close. I was feeling a little nervous at first, but one of the crew members (I can’t remember his name exactly it was either Greg or Garry) was fantastic. He was so friendly, calm and reassuring, and really helped put me at ease. His kindness and professionalism made a huge difference and allowed me to fully relax and enjoy the cruise.”

“Wildlife Coast Cruises in Cowes was fantastic! The staff were friendly and the cruise itself was amazing. I’ve visited the Nobbies viewpoint before, but seeing it from the water was a completely different experience. Watching the seal pups swimming around, so curious and full of energy was incredible, and seeing the adult seals resting on the rocks was just as special. We were lucky with the weather so there was hardly any smell at all. The lemon cake on the way back was a nice touch ☺️Definitely worth the price! I would recommend everyone to give it a go.”
