1 / 2Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool
π Sydney, NSW
Outdoor 50m heated saltwater pool with 8 lanes, a 20m program pool, sun lounges, accessible changerooms with pool hoist, and panoramic views across Woolloomooloo Bay in The Domain.
Sydneyβs posiest pool, Andrew βBoyβ Charlton Pool, has had a further spruce-up since my last visit. The renovation included new decking for those wearing briefs so brief youβd be lucky to smuggle a zebra finch, much less a budgie, inside them. They also laid 47,000 new tiles, added shade sails, a lift for accessibility, and transitioned the poolβs heating from fossil fuel to cleaner, greener electric. It all adds up to a spectacular glittering jewel on the harbour where you can eyeball the young, tanned and beautiful with a backdrop of our countryβs naval defences. The water is clean and buoyant, a product no doubt of it being ridiculously salty. The facilities are amazing. The entry fee is the standard Council $7.90, but the street parking is about $10 an hour during the day, so perhaps consider public transport.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for confident swimmers aged 5+ who'll appreciate the 50m distance and multi-speed lanes. The toddler pool suits young children under supervision. Families visiting by public transport will find it straightforward; those driving should factor in street parking costs nearby.

βI loved visiting Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool and would highly recommend swimming here. The pool has recently undergone a significant and substantial renovation. It is very modern, clean and well resourced. There are a range of different seating and sunbaking areas and facilities. The swimming options in the pool are very well organised and cater for the abilities of all using it. Signage is clear. The pool is very well patrolled by numerous life guards. The view from the pool is spectacular too.β

βThe pool, the area around and the bleachers 5/5! View is also nice The mens washroom/showers 4/5 re: urinal smell as people donβt press the flush button. Salt water pool, plenty of lanes of all speeds as well as a free play lane. Also has a βkiddyβ pool and loungers. Has pay lockers but most people safely leave their belongings on the bleachers or on other side where hey lounge. Front desk staff very helpful and friendlyβ

βAwesome place - wind blows thru change rooms but amazing pool. Glad Iβve ticked that off my swimming pool list. What a joy. Heated salt water and chlorine.β
