Australian Sand Sculpting Championship
📍 Frankston, VIC
Annual event on Frankston's foreshore featuring large-scale sand sculptures by Australian artists. Sculptures are detailed and impressive up close; hands-on sandy activities sometimes available for children.
So impressive! The Sand Sculptures were seriously cool – the detail in each sculpture was insane. It’s amazing what they can create with just sand! Super fun for kids and adults, with a chill beachy vibe.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families who treat it as part of a broader Frankston foreshore outing rather than a standalone day trip. The sculptures themselves impress all ages, and the beachside atmosphere adds to the experience.

“im so happy to visit the sand sculpture in frankston again, it was a great day, when i went it wasn't too crowded so i got to look at the sculptures without too many people around. They were all fantastic and so awesome”

“We went in 2018 and found it to be amazing. I found this year very overpriced and underwhelming. I compared photos from the previous time we went and the displays touched the ground, and you walked around it like you were in sandcastle wonderland. The sandsculptures were the guides and footpaths and not roped off. This was NOTHING like that. Dont get me wrong. The work that was done was amazing quality, but it felt very.....well... underwhelming, small, and a very overpriced display of sand. A shame. I was hoping to show my kids what I had seen the first time to leave very annoyed at how much I had spent on a family of 5 for not much and to leave within half an hour.”

“Loved the sand sculptures, some amazing talent on display. However the entry price is extremely high to view approx 12 sculptures and one being currently made. Then all activities on top need to be paid for at extra high prices. The whole event could be seen in 15 minutes to 30 minutes maximum. Sad really as the amazing work needs to be seen but the entry price is definitely not worth your money.”

Overview
The Australian Sand Sculpting Championship runs as a seasonal ticketed event on the Frankston foreshore. Artists create large, highly detailed sculptures visible up close. The beachside setting pairs well with a foreshore walk before or after. Hands-on sand activities for children have featured in past editions. Recent visitors note the event is compact — most sculptures can be viewed in under 30 minutes — and that additional activities beyond the entry are charged separately.
