1 / 2Capitol Theatre
📍 Haymarket, NSW
Capitol Theatre is a beautifully restored 2,000-seat heritage venue presenting blockbuster musicals, ballets, and live shows. Stalls and Dress Circle seating, accessible facilities, and a Haymarket location with easy public transport access.
The Vibe I’d already seen The Book of Mormon years ago, but this time I took Oli — and once again, the Capitol Theatre delivered. It’s one of those venues that feels grand the moment you walk in. The decor is stunning, classic theatre elegance without feeling dated. Seating & Experience We were seated in Section 24, Row B — fantastic positioning. Close to the candy bar, easy access to the exit, and excellent sightlines. One of the things I love about the Capitol is that even if someone tall is seated in front of you, the viewing angles are still good. Seats are comfortable, and the under-stage orchestra adds that extra layer of magic you just don’t get everywhere. The Practical Bits 💰 Ticket prices vary by show, but expect premium pricing for popular productions. ⏱ Entry was smooth and well-managed — no long delays getting in. 🍷 Each level has its own bar/food area, which prevents overcrowding. You can also pre-order cheese platters and food, which makes interval seamless. 🎟 Merchandise is easy to access and well-stocked both before and after the show. 📍 Very accessible location in Haymarket with good public transport options nearby. Would I Recommend the Venue? Absolutely. The booking process is straightforward, staff are consistently lovely and accommodating, and the overall experience feels polished and organised. The Verdict The Capitol Theatre is one of Sydney’s best venues for major productions. Comfortable, well-run and beautifully designed — hard to fault a night out here.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 10 and up who can engage with full-length professional theatre productions. The heritage atmosphere and high production values make it a genuine special-occasion destination. Pre-order food for intermission and check sightlines when booking seats in the Stalls.

“What a wonderful experience at the Capitol Theatre. I was in town to watch the Sydney leg of The Book of Mormons. As soon as you step into the foyer you are greeted by friendly staff either attending the merchandise or concession stands and as you are guided to your seating, Being in the heart of Sydney's Haymarket District, a meal either before, after (or even in between at intermission) you have choices everywhere, Highly recommended,”

“Last night we saw ' The Book of Mormon' at the Capitol Theatre. Great old theatre and amazing production, well worth seeing. Staff at the theatre were amazing, with every interaction being extremely positive. I have seen comments about the seating and theatre, however have absolutely no complaints. The seats were comfortable, acoustics were great and the view of the stage and production was great.”

“One of the best theatres! Staff was super friendly and the seats were alright. Wish there was a cup holder tho :'). Paid about $90pp for our seats and it was aight. Left view was a bit blocked because of a tall person but ay thats the fun thing about watching theatre, you dont know who you'll have in front of you. Food and drinks were marked up like crazy.”

Overview
Capitol Theatre opened in 1927 and retains its ornate heritage interior. The venue hosts major productions — recent runs include The Book of Mormon, The Great Gatsby, and similar large-scale musicals. Staff are consistently praised for friendliness from foyer to seat. Pre-ordering food reduces intermission queues. Some Stalls views can be partially obstructed by tall patrons — Dress Circle rows offer cleaner sightlines.
