1 / 3Carlton Baths
π Carlton, VIC
Community facility in Carlton offering outdoor pools, a fully equipped gym, indoor multi-sport court, and group fitness classes including cycle sessions. Known for its inclusive, LGBTQIA+-affirming environment and budget-friendly pool access.
I have been going to the Tuesday 9:15 am cycle class for last 3 weeks and totally enjoying the class. The time is perfect as it's not an early morning class but early enough that I have the rest of the day to do life. Love the instructor Billy!! He gives us clear guidance from the range of intensity to which part of the body should be used at certain position to achieve maximum benefit. Music is fun and energising. Couldn't recommend this class more highly.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families who prioritise community atmosphere and affordability over polished facilities. The pool is a standout deal for casual swimmers and sunbathers alike. LGBTQIA+ families consistently report feeling welcome. The gym gets congested at peak hours and casual staff quality is variable β off-peak visits deliver the best experience.

βVery well equipped gym, great vibe and community. The outdoor pool and classes complete the offering. The indoor multi-sport court is a nice plus. It is also great to have access to the swimming pool for just 2 dollars, for both swimmers and sunbathers. I think Carlton Bath delivers great value for money. Casual staff are not always as trained as regular staff, but still ok. An excellent community hub, open to everyone. All considered (services, facilities, cost), five stars.β

βFeel so safe coming to this gym. Very good community and atmosphere. Very LGBTQIA+ friendly. It is a relatively small gym so it does get busy at peak times and you might need to wait a while for some machines - but the community feel of the gym counteracts that for me, and I just avoid those times. The pool and outdoor area is fantastic and a great temperature. I only wish the pool was open all year - would this ever be considered?!β

βI attended a group fitness class today at Carlton Baths and witnessed rude and unprofessional behaviour from a manager towards the gym instructor. From the beginning of the class, it was obvious that the speakers and the instructorβs microphone were not working properly. Despite this, the instructor continued teaching to the best of her ability and remained professional. During the class, a manager came in and attempted to fix the tech issues. However, the problem was not resolved and only became worse, creating loud screeching noises. The instructor did her best to ignore the disruption and continue teaching. After failing to fix the issue, the manager rudely told the instructor to βkeep going and remain professional,β despite the fact that the instructor was already doing exactly that under difficult circumstances. The manager then sat and watched the class for a while, which made members feel uncomfortable. After she left, the sound system continued to cut in and out. The managerβs behaviour towards the instructor was unwarranted and inappropriate. It is the gymβs responsibility to ensure that equipment is functional, and the instructor should not have been spoken to in that manner for an issue out of her control. As paying members, we expect properly maintained facilities and respectful treatment of staff.β
