Collingwood Children's Farm
π Abbotsford, VIC
Nonprofit working farm in Abbotsford where children can enter animal enclosures and interact with goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, guinea pigs, and cows. On-site cafe with a patio overlooking the Yarra River.
Such a fun morning out with the kids! We visited the Collingwood childrenβs farm for the first time a few weeks ago and we had a great experience. There are great βhands-onβ experiences for the kids - petting Guinea pigs, patting a cow, petting chickens, etc. The kids loved all of the farm animals and being able to see them up close. There is also a cafe there and some produce available to buy if you wanted to stay for longer! Definitely recommend trying with kids.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children under 8 who benefit most from direct, supervised animal contact in a non-zoo setting. The guinea pig and sheep sessions are the most hands-on. Morning visits on weekdays are less crowded and animals are more accessible.

βIt's a good option to take the kids to for a bit of running, getting some sun, and getting used to farm animals. Very happy with the covered play area at the barn too. Lovely staff in all sections.β

βA Wonderful City Farm Escape with a Few SuggestionsβΊοΈ What a lovely find so close to the Melbourne CBD! We had a wonderful family day out, and it was a genuine delight to watch our little one connect with the animals. Being able to get hands-on and pet the friendly goats, sheep, and guinea pigs was the absolute highlight. While we cherished the experience, a few things could make it even better. We felt the value for money could be improved, perhaps by increasing the number of animals or adjusting the ticket price slightly. We also wished we could have viewed the beautiful horses and cows from a closer vantage point. It would be a magical addition if children could have a simple pat of the ponies included with admission, rather than as a separate paid activity. The facilities are great β the activity barn is a fantastic space for kids, and the cafΓ© has a really cool, rustic vibe. Our coffees took a bit of time to come out, but the atmosphere was pleasant. Overall, we're so grateful for this farm and the opportunity it provides for city kids. With a few small enhancements, this would easily be a five-star destination for us. We look forward to visiting again!β

βI went there on a summer weekend so it was crowded. Finding parking isnβt too bad, though it is on the pricier side considering it is an extra cost on top of the entrance fee (we spent $52 for tickets and parking combined). It was a huge area, animals were well taken care of and it is great for kids to interact with them freely (you can enter the goatsβ area, sheep and more). The lovely surprise would be the peacock visiting us while we were having a picnic. The animals are very friendly. I wish the toilet can be a bit more modern as they look a bit old and bins near the bathroom area can be opened without us having to use our clean hands to touch the lid (it feels like defeating the purpose of washing hands if I have to touch the bin again afterwards to throw away paper towels).β
