A fun family day out at the miniature train yard! Each ride is only $3 per person, and there are so many different trains to choose from! I brought my train-obsessed cousin, and he absolutely had to ride every single one! The trains included an old steam train like the Hogwarts Express, a V/Line train, a typical Melbourne train, a Japanese bullet train, and more! The trains travel around the park in a circular route, and it’s lovely to wave to people having picnics or those on other trains as they intersect. There's plenty of space in the centre for a picnic or even to host a small birthday party. Just be aware that they are only open on the 4th Sunday of each month, and everything is volunteer-led. So awesome! A great outing for families and train lovers alike!

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with train-obsessed children aged 2-10 who can work around the once-monthly schedule. The volunteer charm and variety of train types keep repeat visits interesting. Avoid school holidays β€” wait times extend significantly. For birthday parties, the open space and easy-going setup make it genuinely low-stress.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Only open on the fourth Sunday of each month β€” verify the date before travelling
⏰Under-4s ride free; check the current per-ride cost at the kiosk on the day
🎟️School holiday sessions bring significantly longer queues β€” a regular monthly Sunday is the better visit
πŸš—Birthday parties are welcome on run days without advance booking; bring your own decorations

β€œSo much fun!!! What a great miniature train station for the whole family. $3 tickets for adults/kids over 4. Under 4 are free. Sausage sizzle $3, cold drinks $2.50, snacks $1 both cash and eftpos is available on the premises. Plenty of space for hosting birthday parties. Picnic tables are available but when busy it’s much easier to bring some camp chairs/picnic blanket to sit. The lines can be super long on school holidays…. So be prepared to wait. But we went on a Sunday around 12.30 and we waited maybe 15 mins. All the volunteers are super friendly and helpful. It was a great fun, cheap and well executed from everyone. Highly recommended !!!!”

β€œhad a great time with my family, we enjoyed the train πŸš‚ ride that is worth the $3 a ticket 🎟️ not only that the sausage 🌭 with onions πŸ§… is very nice especially all money πŸ’° go towards the area and the hard working volunteer there . especially no government support so it's reliable on the public and the volunteer/s working there . can't wait to go again as there can be have party πŸŽ‰ and picnics 🧺 😊 around the railway track πŸ›€οΈβ€

β€œI'm embarrassed. Having lived in this shire for 65 years, I never knew this existed. Open for rides every 4th Sunday is the Mooroolbark Miniature Railway and only $3 per person for a ride. There are plenty of picnic tables and open space.”
