1 / 2Prince Alfred Park Public Pool
π Surry Hills, NSW
Heated outdoor 50m pool with nine lanes, a splash pad with water features, shaded grandstand seating, and family change rooms. Located immediately next to Central Station with ramped access throughout, a pool hoist, and an on-site aqua wheelchair.
The day I went for a dip l, there was a some kind of celebration. Free entry with free gelato til 2pm. The open air swimming pool is massive (for a very affordable community pool). The lanes and space are enough to accommodate passionate swimmers of all sizes and speeds. Folks relaxing under the cover, kids enjoying themselves in the shallow safe play area, skilled speedy swimmers in the fast lanes, and a couple classes with caring instructors. A community pool full of activities and life! Come join the pool of swimmers and love of life π
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with babies and toddlers who want a warm outdoor pool close to the city. The free-play shallow lane is a genuine asset β the water temperature consistently surprises parents expecting a cold outdoor pool. For lap swimmers, avoid the peak evening window when private bookings reduce available lanes to as few as four.

βI was surprised by the temperature of this water! I thought it was going to be very cold being out in the open, but it was lovely. The perfect temperature to bring my baby to splash around in the Free Play lane. There are a few parents that do this in the shallow end. There's a large seating area off to the side with plenty of shade, or sun if that's what you're after. It hasn't been too busy, and I've been there around 5pm on both weekdays and weekends.β

βWe swam several times a week at this 50m clean, well shaded public pool! Great bathrooms, showers, clean change rooms, and large grassed surroundings with loungers and chairs under bright yellow sun unbrellas right next to Central train station! Friendly staff!β

βGreat pool, non salt water, which adds to the workout when threading water :) Lots of shaded and non shaded areas to lounge. Mens change room and toilets very clean.β
