1 / 3Rocket Climbing
📍 Footscray, VIC
Rocket Climbing in Footscray is a modern bouldering gym for ages 5+ with Moonboards, Kilter boards, spray walls, campus boards, and a gym with full weights. Café on-site. Routes skew challenging — best for families with climbing experience.
If I could only choose one gym to visit in Melbourne it’ll be this. Ended up visiting this gym twice during a short holiday. Problems are well thought out, good use of volumes and wall angles. Problems are graded level 1-8, allowing easy progression. They have special problems tagged as “rocket” and boy do those moves make you feel like one, really good for competition simulation as well. The training area makes you want to train. Really well equipped. I’d give 6 stars if I can 😉.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families where at least one member has some climbing experience — the route difficulty skews above beginner level and absolute first-timers may find options frustrating. Older kids and teens who've climbed before will thrive here. The training facilities make it a strong choice for families building climbing as a long-term interest.

“Rocket Climbing has everything one needs in a bouldering gym. Grades felt harder than what I'm used to. Love the route setting, the slabs, the overhangs, the rocket routes for dynos, and most of all, the staff and the climbing community there. The staff were always welcoming and extremely helpful. The regulars were always "allez-ing" each other on and happy to help with beta if needed. It was like a home away from home for the 1+ month I was in Melbourne.”

“Overall a great bouldering gym. It has, among many things, - friendly staff who serve drinks like coffee - a wide open area for climbing (it is a tad morre suited for experienced climbers) - a gym with weights, racks, kettle bells etc. upstairs - clean toilets and shower cubicles - climbing shoes for rental - a mini ship for climbing gears - a mini bike park indoors - a mini cafe with tables and chairs”

“Good training area, clean space and good snacks. The climbs are a little more difficult than other climbing gyms and it's a little smaller but as a casual climber it's not really a problem for me. In saying that I really do love this gym and the vibes are always good here too 👍”
