1 / 3Theatre Royal Sydney
π Sydney, NSW
Refurbished heritage theatre in the Sydney CBD presenting major musicals and plays. Underground parking in the building. Multiple steep staircase runs to stalls seating make the venue unsuitable for prams, wheelchairs, or anyone with sparse mobility.
A modest size stage theatre with a new interior right at the heart of Sydney CBD. I visited Theatre Royal Sydney for Here You Come Again musical in 2025, two decades after my last visit. The place is like an ageless beauty showing no signs of feeling dated. The facilities are well designed, greatly improving the overall experience. The seats are a bit on the firm side but no issues after two and half hours. The staff running the place very smoothly. They are always there to lend a helping hand but otherwise invisible in the background.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with mobile older children and teens attending a specific production. The show quality is consistently high and the CBD location with in-building parking is genuinely convenient.

βWe went to see pretty women last night. We had dinner within the complex at the cabana restaurant. We parked under the building which made it easy. With the weather being so wet and windy. The show was fantastic. When we came up for 5he show a fellow met us at the lift to show us where to wait and where the door was to enter for the show. Great service to him. Grabbed a drink at the barβ

βWas a good venue. Seating was a little squished, they jam in as many people as possible. Didn't make any purchases there. Thoroughly enjoyed Pretty Woman show. Good view of the stageβ

βLovely newly furbished theatre however there is very little accessibility for disabilities. There are so many stairs into the stalls.. about 2 sets of 10, followed by deeper steps down to the front of stage. None of which is visible in their photos on the website. The food & drink options are a little lacking with long lines but they did move quick & a lovely young lady walked around with a small hand cart. There are lots of photo opportunites before going inside. But once you are inside you not only have to walk back up all those stairs to the main floor, but then down 2 sets of 10 steep stairs around a bend to get to the toilets! There are many cubicles so the line moved fast, but i did hear the ladies ended up using the men's. My mango daquiri was way too strong i couldn't drink it. But the performance we saw was fantastic! Just please be aware that anyone with a walker or wheelchair cannot use the stalls & will have a bit further to go for the toilet on the 1st floor outside of the cinema at the back where the foodcourt is. Luckily my mum had gained her leg strength back from physio & was able to get up & down those stairs, but I witnessed an older lady that wasn't so lucky & took a fall.β

Overview
Theatre Royal Sydney presents large-scale productions including musicals, plays, and touring shows in a refurbished CBD venue. Underground parking is accessed directly from the building. A bar operates in the foyer with service that moves quickly during intervals. The Cabana restaurant in the complex suits pre-show dining. The stalls require descending multiple steep staircase runs from the foyer level β this is not flagged clearly in venue photography.
