The playground in the Fitzroy Gardens is a popular area for families with young children. The dragon slide, a slide formed in the shape of a dragon, the giraffe shaped swings and the large sandpit are especially popular. It's only a small playground but with the dragon slide and giraffe swings, it's very different to the many traditional playgrounds you'll find. Young kids love the dragon slide. They can walk up the dragon's spine and slide down its long tail. They also love climbing all over the dragon's head and body, and the little ones crawl through the middle of the dragon. The children also love the swings hanging off the giraffe's front elevated legs. The little one's also enjoy bucketing and at the sandpit. Albeit limited, there are seats adjacent to the playground and toilets nearby.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged 2–5 who will be captivated by the dragon and giraffe theming. The dragon slide climb is steep — children under 3 will need a hand or may find it too challenging. Older kids typically exhaust the equipment within 15 minutes and move to the surrounding garden.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

For the littlies (2-5), it's great. My older boys loved exploring the surrounding garden and finding all the hiding places rather than the dragon slide. Bit they thought it looked cool. Younger kids may also find the slide a bit difficult to climb

Gorgeous dragon slide + giraffe swing for 2 children + sand pit. A very small playground in a spacious grassy area.

Has 2 swings (one strap, one infant) and a slide, so more like a mini play area really. They do have unique designs but if you're thinking of coming to the gardens with kids thinking you can spend some decent time here too you'll probably be disappointed because they'll quickly get bored of either waiting their turn, or done with play quickly. Slide is also more for the older kids - my toddler wanted to try the slide, but the ramp to the top was so steep he's not strong enough to hold on to the bars and climb up so I climbed up with him, then he got scared once at the top though (I assume cuz it's steeper than it looked) and we had to interrupt everyone going backwards as there was no other way to get down. So overall it's good for a mini play and you'll get a couple of cool pics.

Overview

This compact playground in the historic Fitzroy Gardens centres on two signature pieces: a dragon-shaped slide with a steep climb and giraffe-themed swings for two children. A large sandpit rounds out the equipment. The surrounding Fitzroy Gardens offer broad lawns, hidden paths, and mature trees that older children typically prefer over the play equipment itself. No cafe or parking on-site.
