1 / 3Palace Cinemas Balwyn
đ Balwyn, VIC
Renovated 1930s art deco cinema in Balwyn with 11 auditoria, a Deluxe Screen with Barcelona-made seats, two bars, and a cafe. Screens international films, opera, blockbusters, and family titles.
I love having this place close to home. I feel like sharing a review might be like sharing a secret, but here it does anyway. This is a gem that can at times, feel like a private cinema on the quietest days. The chairs are comfortable and pretty big and meeting friends or family for a wine before or after watching a movie is such a great thing to do.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children, teens, and grandparents who enjoy a more refined cinema atmosphere. The comfortable wide seats, wine bar, and eclectic program make it a strong choice for special occasions. Families with young children are better served by the standard screens than the Deluxe tier.

âStunning art deco cinema, great snack and drink options at the bar - love the red wine options, especially the Tempranillo! Also loved the wide, soft modern seating in the cinema. It was suitable for our whole family including grandma đâ

âInside remains fare cleaning and excellent customer services over the counters, since this is an 1930 old building, any funding that can make the exterior apprence better??!! Fading and peeling paint and dirty walls.. đđâ

âIts such a classic old art deco cinema with comfortable seating and leg room. Watched a great movie. Disappointing to see the outside is in need of repairs and paint to bring it back to its well-deserved grand old self though. Staff are friendly and helpful. Its biggest let downs are the food and their prices (including lack of visibility of cost). I purchased a five-point pack of mixed sandwiches and a medium coke at a cost of $24.00! ~$12 each. On top of being surprised at the cost, the quality of the sandwiches was extremely poor. Imagine dry and curled bread that was also quite tough to chew. While I dont expect the sandwiches to be prepared on-site, I do expect them to be fresh. How old were they? I was there for a morning session, so the cinema can't use the excuse they had been sitting there all day. Was there a risk of food poisoning had i eaten them all? The cold quiche didnt look that appetising either. I suggest management have a good chat to their suppliers. I also suggest they provide a range of hot food (not just the cold quiche), especially given that they have seating and tables in their "cafe". Next time, we will snack on food from East & Co or bring our own. On a side note, I'd like to know why there is a transaction fee for EACH ticket ordered rather than per overall transaction. To me, that's just money-raking greed. I hope management responds to this review. I also suggest they look a Rivoli Camberwell's business model, which should be their benchmark. Thank youâ
