We had a wonderful visit to Taronga Zoo with our kids β€” it’s truly one of the best family-friendly attractions in Sydney! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how clean, well-organised and engaging everything was. The animal encounters are fantastic β€” we saw elephants, giraffes, big cats, kangaroos, and so many colourful birds and reptiles. My kids’ eyes lit up at every exhibit! The zoo exhibits are thoughtfully spaced, which makes exploring fun without feeling too crowded. One of the biggest pluses for us was how pram-friendly and stroller accessible the pathways are. We easily navigated the whole zoo with our double pram, and there were plenty of shady rest spots and benches along the way. The views of Sydney Harbour from the zoo are breathtaking and add a beautiful backdrop to the experience. We also enjoyed the keeper talks and feeding times, which were both educational and entertaining for the kids. A couple of tips: β€’ Take the sky safari cable car up/down β€” it’s fun and saves little legs from too much walking. β€’ Arrive early to avoid peak crowds and make the most of your day. Overall, a highly recommended outing for families β€” especially with young kids. Definitely worth visiting when you’re in Sydney!

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

The best zoo day for families in Sydney, especially those with children under 10. Pram-friendly paths, a logical top-to-bottom layout, and keeper talks at timed intervals make it easy to structure the day. Older kids and teens get genuine engagement from Wild Ropes and the larger predator exhibits.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Catch the Sky Safari to the top entrance first, then walk the zoo downhill β€” far easier with prams and tired legs
⏰Koala encounters book out fast; reserve online before the day of your visit
🎟️The Australian native section is compact and high-density β€” a strong starting point
πŸš—Arrive at opening to front-load the keeper talk schedule before crowds build

β€œHave a great day at the zoo I was there with a friend who is disabled so I got in without paying as a companion. I was amazed at how is had changed from the old days we only saw a portion of it but what we saw was excellent. A wonderful display of birds trained to fly free and exhibit the beauty of flight. Trained seals performing tricks on command providing great entertainment and enjoying it themselves. A lazy tiger asleep on the roof of a Jeep, preserving energy and avoiding the heat of the warm humid autumn day. Lunch at the shop there was commodious and prepared us for the rest of the afternoon. Ever a surprise as we passed by the turtles hard at play in a copulatory pose of ecstacy, the male turtle vomiting on the female as the climactic moment approached. Lovely views over the water and the Queen Mary ship moored in front added to the momentous ness of the occasion.”

β€œGreat place for small kids and grown ups. Wonderful view and able to see the other side of the city. Highly recommended. If you would like to see koalas close enough that you can sniff them, you need to book online. We booked 3 hours before and there was a spot. NO TOUCHING. NO HUGS 15 dollars / person/ 5 MIS only( worths it!!!!) ( You need to pay the entrance fee, too) They put other ppl in a koara area with you. So please consider others, too. I enjoyed the five mins taking photos , asking questions and to be next to the koalas. The Koara guy was super nice and educated us a lot :))) We went to the zoo by car and it's free if it's under 90mins. The souvenir shop was super cool. Ppl who there were so nice that they helped me to find the items I wanted to purchase. ❀️❀️ Can't wait to visit Sydney again. πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’— Highly recommended πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌβ€

β€œTaronga Zoo is a fantastic experience and one of the best attractions in Sydney. The zoo is beautifully laid out, making it easy to walk through and enjoy clear views of many different animal species. The Australian natives are especially impressive β€” the koalas are a major highlight, and seeing the duck‑billed platypus, kangaroos, and other unique wildlife up close was unforgettable. The staff and volunteers were incredibly friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about the animals. Their warmth really added to the visit. It rained for most of the day, which dampened the experience a little, but even with the weather, we still had a wonderful time. On a sunny day, it would have been even better. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Sydney.”

Overview

Taronga Zoo Sydney sits above Sydney Harbour with sweeping water views from most exhibit areas. The Sky Safari cable car runs visitors from the bottom entrance to the top, making the downhill walk-through route comfortable for prams and strollers. Keeper talks, behind-the-scenes encounters, and the Wild Ropes high ropes course extend the visit beyond standard zoo viewing. Koala encounters require advance online booking. The Australian native section is among the strongest in the country.
